BRUSHING TEETH

You may not have thought of this before, but getting the toothpaste onto the toothbrush can be tricky when you have trouble seeing, and white, shiny bathroom fixtures can make it even more difficult. The following techniques make this everyday task a little easier:

• Use a dark-colored or striped toothpaste to contrast with white toothbrush bristles, or vice versa.

• Hold the bristles of the brush between the thumb and forefinger while squeezing the toothpaste onto the brush. An alternative is to squeeze the toothpaste onto a forefinger and then put it on the brush or to squeeze a small amount of toothpaste into the palm of the hand and then scoop up the toothpaste onto the bristles of the toothbrush.

• If your older relative is the only one using the toothpaste, he or she may prefer to squeeze it directly into the mouth.
